Modern hotels employ upgraded hotel lock system

Nowadays, modern hotels employ upgraded hotel lock system that is suitable, the best in terms of maximum security, attractive to individuals and are affordable. There are numerous varieties of the hotel lock system, some of which includes

1.    Magnetic Stripe Card (Magistrate)

Magstripe technology was developed in the 1970s and significantly was a massive development in the lock technology. The magstripe is similar to a credit card; the original plastic keycard contains a magnetic strip that is encrypted to work with a specific guestroom lock. The batteries to power the magstripe reader in the lock typically last between 12-18 months. Magstripe card may encounter some problems, some of which includes Demagnetization and it is very common. Demagnetization occurs in cases whereby a guest places a magnetic stripe keycard next to a battery (such as a smartphone or camera), the programming can be scrambled which leads to malfunction and will eventually need a replacement which can be done at the front desk. Other problems which can be encountered when using a magstripe card includes dirt and dust in the card slot and these affect the operation of the card.

2.    RFID (Radio Frequency Identification)

RFID was invented in the early 2000s. Unlike the magstripe card where you need to swipe your card to gain access to a room, RFID cards only need to be held up within a few inches of the lock for the card reader antenna to pick up the electromagnetic radio signal from the door lock. The door lock contains an RFID module within the exterior fascia of the lock. RFID locks are powered by batteries that have a lifespan of about 12-18months. In terms of failure, RFID keycard fails less often compared to magstripe keycards. To purchase an RFID card is extremely expensive compared to magstripe keycards because it is about three times the price.
